Field Trip – Blackstone Innovation School (2/9/18)

On February 9, 60 fifth grade students from the Blackstone Innovation School came to Northeastern University for a field trip on engineering.

In the morning the students completed a Reverse Egg Drop activity. The students had a wide range of materials to ‘buy’ with their allotted budgets, in order to create a device that results in a successful egg drop. Their creativity is tested, along with their knowledge of physics and materials science.

The students then created paper rockets with fins of their own design. The rockets were even brought outside and tested to observe the maximum height and distance traveled as a measure of the effectiveness of their designs.

In the afternoon, the students also had the chance to take part in College 101, in which they ask our volunteers questions about college (and high school) life!
